The Anointing of Unity

Psalm 133:1-3 says, “1Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.”

One thing that the enemy seeks to attack within the body of Christ is our unity. He wants the church to be divided by denomination or race, arguing and debating over the smallest issues that hold no significant or eternal value whatsoever. As we focus on half of a verse in all of the Bible that causes us to go a mile down the road and split off from another church to build our own, the devil is on a rampage in the world and appears to be advancing his kingdom since we do not grasp the revelation of who we really are in Jesus Christ. The church cannot grow by division but by multiplication, and this factor of multiplication comes through unity.

Unity is good and pleasant in God’s sight “when” it is in total alignment with His will and Word. Otherwise, you are simply building a “Tower of Babel” ministry that will breed failure. When our unity is to further our own agendas, it will still not be successful. Success is not defined by how many attend our church but how we live out God’s will and purpose for our lives. Unity is compared to the anointing that ran from Aaron’s head and beard even to the skirts of the garment. Aaron was the select choice of God’s priesthood, and through his alignment, the anointing went from the head to the body. What gets in the head gets in the body! Spiritually, Christ is the head and we, as the church, are the body (Ephesians 4:15-16). If we are in perfect alignment and unity as a body of Christ with Christ, we will operate in the greatest anointing we have ever experienced. The unity of the church is something the devil cannot tolerate or defeat. We must get back to unity. It is on the mountain of unity where the glory of God falls. We are positioned for Him to pronounce blessings and life upon us forevermore!

A church divided will never stand. It will lose its influence on every level because it will be incapable of winning the respect of an outside community. When the body is divided from the head, the church becomes paralyzed. It is immoveable. It cannot receive the proper communications from the head in order to properly function. They depend on someone else to move them as they are insensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit. If the body is divided within itself, it can receive communication from the head but it chooses to walk in total disobedience, when causes a limp in the body of Christ! We must come to terms with our spiritual state and discern that if we are doing anything to cause division or be separated from God’s presence, we must repent so we can be consumed with the anointing of unity. We must search ourselves, inspecting our hearts through the lens of the Holy Spirit to reveal anything in us that is not like Jesus. The power of agreement is precious, and the devil cannot do anything with it! Therefore, let us be unified so we can advance the kingdom like never before in our community, region and nation!
